The route, in order

You leave through Thane and Bhiwandi, then continue to Shahapur and climb the Kasara ghat. After Igatpuri the road opens up and you reach Nashik.

The Samruddhi alternative. Part of the Samruddhi Mahamarg now runs between Amane (Thane) and Igatpuri, taking about 40 minutes instead of about 90 on the old road, and it lets you skip the steep Kasara ghat climb. The catch is that the route from Nashik city to the expressway adds distance and can mean a second toll. Ask us which route suits your timing and pickup point.

When to leave

• Before 7 am: the best option. You clear Thane before the crush.

• Mid-morning to mid-afternoon: usually steady.

• 5 to 9 pm on weekdays: avoid if you can.

• Monsoon: the ghat is beautiful but slow. Add 45 to 60 minutes as buffer.

• Friday evenings and holiday weekends: the longest delays, especially around Thane.

Where to stop

Igatpuri is the natural break. It has plenty of tea and snack stalls, and the views in the rains are worth a stop. If you're carrying on to Trimbakeshwar or Shirdi, tell us when booking so we can plan the day.
